ATA, DOT Agency Plan Security Seminars
American Trucking Associations said it and the U.S. Transportation Safety
Institute had agreed to hold a series of joint training seminars in January,
teaching motor carriers how to prevent losses from cargo theft, hijackings and
possible terrorist activity.
Don L. Rondeau, director of claims and security for ATA’s Safety
& Loss Prevention Management Council, said the training initiative would
amount to “customized truck and transportation security training”
with courses and seminars ranging from anti-hijacking and anti-terror concerns
to recommended cargo security practices.
He said his group had asked the Department of Transportation’s Research
and Special Programs Administration for help conducting the security seminars,
to have the benefit of DOT’s experts in security and loss prevention.
RSPA is the parent organization of the Transportation Safety Institute, which conducts
worldwide safety, security and environmental training.
